Chambers Crescent Theatre

Chambers Crescent Theatre

Chambers Crescent Theatre, a 300 square metre room, air-conditioned, carpeted floor, mirrors on walls, toilet, and kitchenette, with sound and lighting, tables and chairs for up to 200 persons, suitable for dinners, functions, concerts, meetings, rehearsals, and so on.

Darwin Community Arts commenced management of the Theatre in July 2007, on behalf of Henry Yap, owner of Malak Shopping Centre, who agreed to make it available for community use while it was not leased. In September 2008, the Northern Territory Government approved a grant for a three-year lease (2008-2011) for the Theatre, securing it as a multipurpose space for community use, especially for community cultural development activities. Another multi-year grant has been approved by Arts NT for the period 2012-2015.

Renovation of the Theatre started in 2012 with the assistance of the Community Benefit Fund, NT Government. The renovation included installing theatre curtains, additional airconditioning, an accessible toilet, theatre lighting equipment, and other improvements. This set of renovations was completed in late 2013.
