Melaleuca Refugee Centre is hosting a fundraiser with the premiere screening of acclaimed film ‘Hope’. 400 asylum seekers set out on a boat known as the SIEV X. Only 7 made it to Australia. One of them was Amal Basry. ‘Hope is an inspiration to all Australians who hope for better treatment of refugees in future’ – Julian Burnside, QC. Film to be followed by a Q&A session with director Steve Thomas. Ethiopian, Ugandan, Kenyan and Brazilian meals for sale, as well as freshly brewed chai tea and cakes by staff and volunteers. | ||

Long Grass Theatre "Taster Sessions" Thurs 1st, 8th & 15th July 6 - 9pm "Take A Bite" workshop Fri 23rd & Sat 24th July 10am - 4pm Where: Chambers Crescent Theatre, Darwin Community Arts, Malak Shopping Centre 'Theatre of the Oppressed' was developed by Augusto Boal in the 1960's in Brazil with the goal of empowering people and communities to deal with local problems including poverty, racism and illiteracy. Theatrical techniques such as role-play and creative games are used to excplore solutions using a theatrical dialogue. Long Grass Theatre is staging three evening introductory sessions for people who just want a taste of this type of theatre.
