Acting for screen workshop – Rescheduled
Please note this workshop date has been pushed back a week from the 22/8 to the 29/8 due to current covid restrictions.
Proudly presented by Darwin Community Arts in partnership with Fist Full of Films Festival and Cast Away NT.
Rob Hoad has acted in television commercials, tv series and telemovies as well as feature films and acted in, directed, shot and edited numerous short films. He won several awards in past Fist Full of Films including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematographer. Rob trained as a theatre actor and retrained to act for the camera. There is a difference!
This workshop will explore and discuss numerous filmmaking techniques and how they relate to the
actor and how the actor contributes to telling an award-winning story for the screen. Be prepared to play, think, move and step outside of your comfort zones to a place where true skill is acquired.
You need no acting experience whatsoever, we will explore the basics and build skills quickly to
combine with our innate intuitive sense of character to find a place of personal confidence and
readiness to act.
Diving deep into the actor’s journey we will explore Stanislavsky’s technique for ‘Building Character’ and the developments of ‘The Method’ which took place at ‘The Actor’s Studio’ in New York. The Method has dominated acting in feature films and naturalist theatre since the early 1960’s and remains a standard in the industry. We will look at acting for camera and the techniques of various directors such as David Mamet, Rolf De Heer and Mike Lee.
