SOLD OUT
Thursday 2nd November, 5:30-7:00pm – Outdoor drawing in the mangroves
AND Thursday 9th November, 5:30-7:00pm – Indoor painting at DCA, Mudul-ma Community Art Space
Ticket includes both sessions – $25
Explore your creativity and connect with nature in our Outdoor/ Indoor workshops. We’ll start by sketching in the Rapid Creek mangroves and then move to the studio the following week to develop those sketches into watercolour paintings.
Local artist, Elizabeth Martin will guide you through;
- shapes and composition
- observing botanical detail
- tonal shading
- field notes and journalling
- colour mixing
- mark making and washes
The workshops build progressively, so we strongly encourage people to attend both sessions.
These workshops are structured for progression, so attending both sessions is strongly recommended. They are aimed as an introduction to drawing and painting, but all skill levels are welcome to participate.
Art materials: Basic materials will be supplied as part of the workshop (pencils, paper, paints, brushes). If you have your own materials that you like to use, we encourage you to bring hem along.
What to bring: To protect yourself from mozzies and midges cover up with light coloured, long sleeved shirt, pants and insect repellent. Bring a hat, water bottle and something to sit on (a portable seat or something to sit on the ground that you don’t mind getting dirty), a phone camera to take some reference photos if you wish.
Outdoor Location, Thurs 2nd Nov: Park in the carpark between Lakeside Drive Community Garden and the Alawa dog park. Follow the DCA signs to our drawing location. It is a 5-10 minute walk on an uneven, dirt and pebble track. Please see the map below and look out for DCA signs on the day. Come a little early to get set up and maximise you’re drawing time.
Indoor Location, Thurs 9th Nov: Darwin Community Arts, Mudul-ma Community Art Space, 2/1 Travers Street, Coconut Grove.
Covid-19 Precautions: Please do not attend this class if you are feeling unwell with cold or flu symptoms on the day. We will happily refund your ticket.
This activity is proudly supported and subsidised by Intermingle.
