Whittle a cutlery set
Whittling is back due to popular demand!
Join Forest Peters, an experienced and enthusiastic whittler for a series of four workshops to create a complete cutlery set. It is recommended you attend all four sessions.
UNTiTLED gallery+studio (3/1 Caryota Court, Coconut Grove)
Week 1 – Sat 21 Nov, 1-3:30pm – introduction and knife
Week 2 – Sat 28 Nov, 1-3:30pm – spoon
Week 3 – Sat 5 Dec, 1-3:30pm – fork
Week 4 – Sat 12 Dec, 1-3:30pm – finishing off your set
These workshops will cover basic knife techniques, keeping tools sharp, and how to select the right wood for your project. You will get lots of hands-on practice creating your own beautiful cutlery set for yourself or maybe a special gift.
For safety reasons and ease of facilitation, this workshop is suitable for adults.
Materials – You will need your own knife for this workshop. You can buy from DCA ($20) when booking the workshop. OR directly through the NT General Store, 42 Cavenagh Street, Darwin City ($21.50).
We recommend an Opinel, size 6, 7 or 8.
Carbon steel is preferred, however, stainless steel is also fine.
A ‘swiss army knife’ isn’t ideal as it is not designed for long term use in the hands.
DCA will provide the timber for carving.
