DCA Annual General Meeting elects Board for 2015-2016

The Annual General Meeting of Darwin Community Arts concluded on 3 June 2015, electing a new Board for 2015-2016. Elected were: Lina Paselli, Chair; Jim McDougall, Deputy Chair; Denis Blackford, Member; Oldrich Dubsky, Member; Sachiko Hirayama, Member; and Sandar Tun, Member.

March Community Dinner offered a wide range of entertainment including martial arts & dance demonstration by Xango Capoeira, Black Swan youth theatre performance, young guitarist and singer Ziggy Durling, banjo and uke musicians Shel O'Toole & Ka Brown and story-teller Sachi Hirayama.

Fun Days Out during school holidays

Fun Days Out was an interactive two day workshop for youth during school holidays in January 2015. Organised and run by Joyce Hakim, this event focused on traditional ways of playing outdoor/indoor games to develop social and physical skills.

Community Dinner February 2015

The first 2015 Community Dinner kicked off in style - we had an audience of 170 people and six wonderful performances (Shel O'Toole, Keltikka, Liam Stansfield, Swing Dance NT & Mint Slices Orchestra, Jammers and Bong Ramilo). Big thanks to eveyone who helped out on the night.

Darwin Fridge Festival 2014 wrap up

Darwin Fridge Festival 2014 proved to be a roaring success. We are proud to say we had a biggest variety and highest number of entries (total of 47) from individuals and groups in the festival history and the quality of the artworks certainly made the festival stand out.

Underground Arts flourishes

2014 has been a resounding success for Underground Arts Saturday workshops. Participants have enjoyed a variety of “Come & Try” sessions including mosaic, water colour, oil and acrylic painting. Thank you to all volunteers for their hard work!

Working bee at Malak Community Garden

Huge thanks and hats off to all volunteers who helped out on Sunday - Our gardening session started at 8am and we worked till 1pm. We got rid of old trees, plants and leaves, used up 3 trailers of mulch and planted many new plants and flowers. Lots of sweat, few blisters and many laughs.

Short movie screening

Congratulations to Nitesh Raj Pant (and his crew) on a successful short movie double screening on Sunday 16 November. All four movies (filmed in Darwin, Sydney and Los Angeles) received a huge applause from the crowd. We're looking forward to more to come!
